Phuket’s beaches belong to the public, and 2026 is the year the government enforced it.
AprilAuthorities cleared restaurant furniture and structures from Bang Tao’s public sand. Businesses can operate on titled land but not on the beach itself.
MayThe prime minister oversaw the operation in Phuket, and over five rai of Bang Tao beachfront was reclaimed from 16 illegal restaurant structures.
JuneISOC Region 4 named 16 Bang Tao venues under investigation for alleged encroachment on public coastal land. Operators were placed under suspension orders while a fact-finding committee works. Officials stressed its role is to establish the facts, not to decide guilt.
